As a new parent you will probably be overloaded with advice and information about raising your child. From what nappies to use and the advantages of breast feeding to how to make your baby smarter. Millions of pounds are spent every year on products designed to increase your child's IQ.
Parental interaction is essential for helping your child grow and learn. Talking, singing, playing and cuddling will be vital in your child's mental and physical development.
From the moment of birth, your baby was curious about the surrounding world. Every sound, sight, touch and smell is a new experience, helping them make connections as they grow and develop.
When your children are young they love to play games and interact with those around them. Any stimulation can ellicit a reaction from your baby, making them smile, laugh or even cry. But they always look forward to play time. You should do too.
Try not to over stimulate your baby as they get used to their new surroundings, and if you feel your child is becoming uncomfortable with a situation or cries, change the activity to something calmer, or cuddle and rock them.
Whatever activity you engage in with your newborn to help them make connections with the world, be sure to choose something that is appropriate for your baby's age and development.
